David Sosnowski

Director of Recreation & Community Services

David Sosnowski has 20 years of experience in municipal government with the City of Montebello. David began working for the City of Montebello in 2001 for the Parks and Recreation Department in the Parks Maintenance Division where he became an Athletic Field Maintenance specialist. In 2004, David became a Community Services Specialist for the Recreation Division assisting the oversight of the City’s Sports and After School Recreation programs. In 2008, David became a Community Services Coordinator in the Sports Office overseeing youth and adult sports and special events logistics.

David's current position with the City is the Director of Recreation & Community Services. In David's tenure, he has overseen several park improvement projects including the Taylor Ranch Greenspace Project, organized and overseen largescale City events and functions, and the completion and adoption of the City's updated comprehensive Park Master Plan and Facilities Needs Assessment.

David grew up in the City of Montebello where he enjoyed the City's park system and participated in City programs and events throughout his childhood. David graduated from Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary High School in 2002 and California State University of Los Angeles in 2007.

The department strives to provide rewarding programs, services, and facilities that enhance the quality of life for Montebello residents and positively influence the public. Staff are committed to strengthening Montebello’s image and offering a sense of community, thereby supporting economic development, increasing public engagement, and promoting health and wellness. The Recreation and Community Services Department is comprised of the following programs and operational areas:

Administration
The Recreation and Community Services Administration is responsible for the leadership and oversight of a wide range of recreational facilities, parks, programs, services, and Golf Course operations. Staff maintain budgetary control and fiscal responsibility for the department, grants management, strategic planning, interdepartmental coordination, and collaboration with the School District, community sports leagues, the Parks and Recreation Commission, and other community based organizations.

The Department of Recreation and Community Services oversees, operates, and coordinates the reservation and rentals of facilities for its community groups, residents, employers, and visitors. Over 84 developed acres are home to ten (10) parks; multiple athletic fields; outdoor pickle-ball, basketball, and tennis courts; an indoor gymnasium; a skate park; two aquatic facilities and a splash pad; a community garden; batting cages; a barnyard zoo; a youth center; and outdoor amphitheater; and a senior center.

Senior Services are offered to empower and provide senior citizens aged 50 years and over access to physical, leisure, social, and life-enhancing and sustaining programs and services, thus allowing older adults to thrive and age healthfully in the community. To support this, the Montebello Senior Center maintains a schedule of classes, social services, and special events for the senior population. Continuous programs include health screenings, dances, and a variety of exercise/leisure classes. Staff promote needed senior resource programs to reinforce this group’s quality of life, health and well-being. By providing senior citizens assistance, advocacy, and liaison services for various resources related to housing, food, healthcare, and transportation among others.

The Department of Recreation and Community Services is responsible for coordinating special events in the Montebello community, festivities that display Montebello's unique heritage and diverse cultures. The current events are the Veteran's Day Program, Memorial Day Program, City Heritage 5K Run, Halloween Fest, Winter Wonderland and Tree Lighting, Independence Day Spectacular, and Downtown Street Fest.
