City Clerk's Office

Welcome to the City Clerk Office. The City Clerk is elected to office by the citizens of the community to serve a four-year term, serves as the custodian of the Official City Seal, and administers oaths and affirmations.

The elect City Clerk and City Clerk staff are non-partisan public servants who promote open government and transparency of information by providing a link between citizens and government. The City Clerk's Office acts as the compliance officer for federal, state and local statutes, including the Political Reform Act, the Brown Act and the Public Records Act. The City Clerk's Office is also responsible for conducting elections in a fair and impartial manner.

Responsibilities of the City Clerk Office:

  • Prepares agenda packets for the City Council
  • Processes all public records requests
  • Accepts claims and service of legal documents
  • Maintains the Montebello Municipal Code (MMC)
  • Processes all Resolutions, Ordinances, Contracts, Deeds and official documents
  • Maintains City documents and agreements entered into by the City and all other governing boards
  • Ensures that City Council and all other governing boards' actions are properly executed, recorded, and archived
  • Posts legal notices and conducts bid openings
  • Services as the Filing Officer as required by the Fair Political Practices Commission "FPPC"
  • Administers fair and impartial City elections and assists with voter registration
  • Administers Oaths of Office, attesting, and sealing official documents
