2022 Election

GENERAL ELECTION INFORMATION

For the November 2022 municipal election, all five (5) City Council District seats will be placed on the ballot. Council seats for Districts 2 and 4 will be placed on the ballot for a 2-year term and Council seats for Districts 1, 3, and 5 will be placed on the ballot for a 4-year term. Councilmembers are elected only by the registered voters of their own district and must reside in that district. The City Treasurer seat was placed on the ballot in the November 2022 municipal election, for a full term of four years.

PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES INFORMATION

If you would like to become a candidate for local office, one must:

  • A citizen of the United States.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • City of Montebello Resident.
  • Registered to vote within your District.
  •  

    Pre-Nomination Period Activities.

    Prior to soliciting or receiving any contributions related to candidacy, one must file a Candidate Intention Statement California Form 501 with the City Clerk's Office.

    CAMPAIGN REPORTING REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES

    The Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) provides free, expert advice at their toll free number (866) ASK-FPPC (275-3772) or you may go to their website.

    CANDIDATE HANDBOOK AND FEES

    The Candidate Handbook is available in electronic format at no cost and will be provided to those who will pull nomination papers for the upcoming election. There is a fee of $25 to be issued nomination papers and a fee to file a Candidate Statement if the candidate chooses to do so. Please note that the Candidate Statement is optional, and the fee is determined by the County of Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk. The acceptable payment forms include cash, checks, credit cards, or money orders.
